San Benito High School held a ribbon cutting Monday afternoon for the new Physical Education and Athletic Multi-Use Field prior to the girls’ varsity field hockey game vs. Gilroy. The 177,000-square-foot multi-use field on the southwest side of campus will be used by Baler soccer, baseball, softball, field hockey, lacrosse and football teams. It was made possible by funds from Measure U, the $60 million bond initiative approved in 2016 that is paying for various facility upgrades at the campus. Superintendent Shawn Tennenbaum opened the ribbon cutting ceremony Monday by thanking voters, student-athletes and various contractors that took part in the process, and other speakers followed.
