San Benito High School students will perform the musical Newsies over the next two weekends at the campus auditorium.
The show centers around the 1899 newspaper deliverer strike in New York, while the musical has plenty to offer for fans of singing and dancing.
“It’s got a great chorus so we could cast a lot of people,” said Kristen Porter, San Benito High School’s drama teacher. “A lot of people can be Newsies.”
For fans of the movie, Porter mentioned how the theater show has plenty of differences.
“The movie’s definitely different than the stage production,” she said.
Porter said the students are “super excited” about putting it on.
“It’s got a great message about standing up for yourself and doing the right thing, sticking to your convictions.”
Performances are scheduled for March 29-30 and April 4-6 at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium. General tickets are $10 at the door. Students, kids under 12 and seniors can get discounted tickets at the Student Payment Center. The payment center is right outside the auditorium and is open until 4 p.m.
Play leads include Joey Rasmussen as Jack, Grace Richards as Katherine, Ben Arrington as Crutchie, Camden Eggers as Davey and Hannah Isom as Les.
