Each July, tens of thousands of bikers descend on Hollister, Calif. for one of the most iconic motorcycle rallies in the entire country. Its roots date back to 1947 and the so-called “invasion” of biker gang members that led to a staged Life Magazine cover of a boozy biker perched on his ride. The unruly event led to the Marlon Brando movie “The Wile One” and a tradition like no other with the Hollister Independence Rally.
