DUI suspected in wreck on 129 causing slew of injuries

A Sunday traffic collision on Highway 129 in San Benito County resulted in seven injuries and the arrest of a Kerman man on suspicion of driving under the influence.

At 4:43 p.m., the California Highway Patrol responded to the traffic collision on 129 at Chittenden Road in San Benito County, CHP Officer Chris Miceli reported.

Three vehicles were involved. The driver of a Silver Ford Mustang collided with a black GMC pickup and also a Silver Ford Escape.

The driver of the Mustang arrested on suspicion of DUI was Ricardo Martinez, age 20, from Kerman. He sustained major injuries and was released to a hospital, not taken to jail, Miceli said.

The driver of the Ford Escape, a 56-year-old from Salinas, sustained major injuries. Two passengers in the Ford Escape also sustained minor injuries, while three passengers in the Mustang sustained minor injuries, Miceli said.
