Students perform well in virtual sports medicine competition

This year, San Benito High School had 21 of Danielle Cote’s Sports Medicine students compete in a virtual sports medicine competition on March 31, during which they took a 150-question exam with a 65-minute time limit.

Four SBHS students placed in the top 50 of their division to qualify for the practical exam that will take place via Zoom (or a similar online platform) between April 2 and 9. The four students who are preparing for their practical exam are Rigoberto Morin, Iana Padilla, Kelly Salvatera and Kelcy Salvatera.

The practical exam will consist of five questions through which the students will either demonstrate a skill or explain a skill depending on the supplies they have available at their house. The practical topics are First Aid/CPR/Emergency Procedures, Palpation of two Anatomic Structures, Special Tests/ROM, and a Tape Procedure.

The first photo is of the Baler Sports Med students at a February seminar in Sacramento and the second photo is one of the knee images that Cote created so students could study their palpation landmarks ahead of the exam.
