Skilled nursing facility to remain closed for disaster remediation

Mabie Northside Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) will remain closed for disaster remediation, abatement, and restoration due to the flooding that took place on the afternoon of December 4th.

Forty-six SNF residents were transferred to the Mabie Southside Skilled Nursing Facility and Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital, and are doing well in their temporary locations.

All of the SNF’s furnishings, equipment and resident belongings have been removed and are stored in containers onsite, while the issues with the storm water penetrations are remediated. Environmental testing also identified a 1% presence of asbestos in previously undisturbed areas of the building and an abatement action plan is currently in progress and projected to be completed by Thursday or Friday, December 19th or 20th.  Once the remediation and abatement processes are complete, restoration of the building can begin under an Emergency Authorization from OSHPD (Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development).

It is anticipated that residents may be able to return to the facility as soon as late January or early February 2020.
