Yet another fire broke out off Panoche Road in southern San Benito County on Thursday.
This time, the fire was reported shortly after 1 p.m. at Panoche Road and New Idria Road. That’s about 13 miles east of the fire that started Wednesday near the Calfire Antelope Station.
The first of the two fires, which started around 4 p.m. Wednesday, stood at 278 acres and 65 percent containment as of Thursday morning. The latest fire was at 70 acres as of 2:30 p.m., according to Calfire.
“I think they’ve got a good hold on it, but it’s still burning,” said Calfire spokesman Elliot Maiorana on Thursday regarding the fire at New Idria Road.
These latest two fires come about five weeks after a series of fires sparked off Panoche Road as well.
