SBHS names Sims Delay as substitute of the month

Sylvia Sims Delay, a 1979 graduate of San Benito High School, is the February Substitute of the Month, as selected by the Human Resources Department.

The native of San Antonio, Texas moved to Hollister in 1964 and earned an associate of arts degree in administrative justice from Gavilan College before earning a bachelor of arts degree in general studies from Indiana University.

She said her favorite subject to teach is social science, as she “loves the topics and there is always more to learn right along with the kids.”

Delay, who is married to SBHS Trustee Steve Delay and whose children Roy Sims and Ashley Masula are Baler alums, said her hobbies include sewing, tennis, cooking, gardening, playing guitar and jewelry making.

In addition to her work as a substitute teacher, Delay is a licensed real estate agent with Bertao Real Estate Group and she has a practice called Cal Inspired, through which she does Reiki healing, meditation and hypnosis. She is the grandmother to eight, who she says are the “best gifts my children have every given me. Family is No. 1!”
