The City of San Juan Bautista is planning to dedicate a new park in honor of the late Jim West.
There will also be dedications that same day on the De Anza Trail and at the library in honor of the late San Juan mayor.
The former San Juan mayor died Dec. 6 when a fellow Graniterock employee heard a gunshot and found his body outside the workplace located at 2391 San Juan Highway. The San Benito County Sheriff/Coroner’s Office this week ruled his death was a suicide.
The City of San Juan Bautista has tentatively scheduled a ceremony for 11:30 a.m. Jan. 19 to dedicate a new park in the Rancho Vista development in West’s name, according to City Clerk Laura Cent.
The city is looking at either installing a sign or a nice, large granite boulder to commemorate West.
It’s one of three dedications that day. The first one will be a dedication of a bench on the De Anzar Trail at 9:30 a.m. The city will place different types of monument stone on either side of the bench and plans to honor more people there in the future, City Manager Michaele LaForge said.
Then at 2 p.m. that same day, officials are planning to dedicate a shelf at the Carl Luck Memorial Library in honor of West. It will include his personal books that have been donated to the city, Cent said.
Officials discussed these tentative plans at Tuesday’s city council meeting.
