San Benito tax collector clarifies ramifications of governor’s order

Courtesy of San Benito County:

Governor Newsom’s Executive Order N -61-20 gives Tax Collectors the authority to cancel penalties, costs, or interest for failure to pay property taxes due to the impacts of COVID 19, very much like the courtesy waiver we already have in place.

The order does, however, extend the due date to 05/06/2021. The Executive Order is applicable for taxes and existing installment plans that became due after March 4, 2020.  The Executive Order provides for certain criteria to be met and accompanied proof of the COVID 19 impact.

You can obtain the required waiver form through our office or website. Please call or email our office should you have additional questions or concerns.

As always, we will continue to monitor this situation and update and adjust as needed.
