Assemblyman Robert Rivas announced his committee assignments for the current legislative session.
According to the statement from Rivas’ office:
Assemblymember Robert Rivas of the 30th District (D-Hollister) has been appointed to the following committees of the California State Assembly: Agriculture, Appropriations, Government Organization, Local Government, and Rules.
“I would, first off, like to thank Speaker Rendon for trusting me with these committee appointments,” said Assemblymember Robert Rivas. “These committee roles empower me to better serve the communities of the 30th Assembly District and to offer a pragmatic approach towards solving problems for California.”
“From growing up in farmworker housing, to working in local government, I know the importance of agriculture to our region and people,” continued Rivas. “Serving as a member on the Agriculture committee empowers me to further engage on these critical issues—to strengthen local farms and stand up for our farm-working families.”
As a former county supervisor, Rivas is well-positioned to hit the ground running as a member of the Local Government Committee and ensure elected officials across the district are heard in Sacramento. Eight years of experience balancing budgets and making tough funding decisions in county government also prepare Rivas to serve on the powerful Assembly Appropriations committee, and use that role to fight for the needs of the people in the District.
Rivas’ new position on the Government Organization Committee empowers him to utilize his background as a firefighter and EMT to help ensure the State prepares well for emergencies and natural disasters. The committee also has jurisdiction over key issues that impact the region’s wine industry.
Rounding out the committee package, Rivas’ appointment to Assembly Rules Committee provides an important opportunity to work with colleagues in Sacramento to get things done effectively for the people of the 30th Assembly District and across the state.
