Police arrested a juvenile on suspicion of a burglary and an attempted burglary of downtown eateries.
According to Hollister police:
On April 24 at approximately 3:13 a.m., officers responded to Heavenly Bakery, 601 San Benito St., when a citizen noticed the front door of the business open. Officers discovered the destroyed cash register on the floor and the business had been ransacked. It appeared someone had broken the door and entered the business taking an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register.
At about 7:16 a.m., the Country Rose Restaurant owner, located at 756 San Benito Street, called police to report damage to a window. Officers also discovered the front door of the business was damaged similar to the Bakery but no entry had been made and nothing was taken.
The City of Hollister’s downtown video surveillance system captured a juvenile suspect at both of the crimes scenes. The footage depicts the suspect kicking in the door at the bakery, entering and leaving a short time later. The footage shows what appears to be the same suspect at the County Rose Restaurant.
Officer’s Esqueda and Tong, with the help of our School Resource Officers were able to identify the 17 year old suspect. Officers responded to the suspect’s home but they were not able to locate him there. However, officers were later called to his attorney’s office where the juvenile was taken into custody in the presence of his attorney and his mother. He was booked at the San Benito Juvenile Hall on the charges of burglary and attempted burglary.
