Police seek suspects who tried to steal dogs at animal shelter

Courtesy of the Hollister Police Department:

On Thursday, two suspects cut the locks and tried to steal dogs at the Hollister Animal Shelter.

On February 21, 2019 at about 3:53 am, officers responded to an alarm at the Animal Shelter. Officers found a gate had been forced open and the lock had been cut.

Officers obtained video footage of two men tampering with the gate and proceeding to the back of the shelter. Investigators found evidence indicating the burglars were attempting to break into the specific kennels where dangerous dogs are housed.

The two burglars were unsuccessful in opening the kennels and fled prior to police arrival. Both suspects wore hooded sweatshirts and hide their faces. One of the suspects wore camouflage pants.

The Hollister Police Department is releasing the surveillance pictures in an attempt to see if anyone recognizes the two suspects. There is a $1,000 reward for information leading to the identification and conviction of the two suspects.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is requested to contact the Hollister Police Department at 831-636-4330. Persons wishing to remain anonymous may call WeTip at (800) 78-CRIME. Information provided to WeTip may qualify for a reward.
