Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (CA-20) released the following statement on the passing of Congressman John Lewis (GA-05).
“I’m heartbroken to learn of the passing of Congressman John Lewis. He was a civil rights giant, who literally shed his blood in the fight for justice in America. I am honored to have served with Mr. Lewis in Congress and as a fellow member of the House Ways and Means Committee, and to have traveled to Selma, Alabama this past March to walk arm and arm with him over the Edmond Pettus Bridge. I will be, and every American should be, forever inspired and influenced to finish the work that he began. As we mourn his passing, let all of us recommit to building a better nation for all.”
