José Sergio Zendejas passed away at Natividad Hospital in Salinas, California on December 27, 2018 at the age of 58 years.
José was born on July 2, 1960 in Michoacan, Mexico to Socorro Cervantes and Francisco Zendejas.
He attended school in his home town of El Cerrito Colorado, Michoacan,
Mexico until the end of middle school. Then in 1974, he made the journey
with his father to the United States where he worked the agricultural
fields, picking various fruits and vegetables including lettuce and
apricot of San Benito County, California.
He went back to Mexico where he married his wife, Carmen Ruiz on
February 25, 1982 in his hometown in Mexico. They both moved to
Hollister where they had 3 boys, Sergio, Javier, and Roberto. After his
children were born, he began his career as a welder, investing over 30
years in the fabrication business. His specialty was bending steel by
hand, with the help of tools, to make and install parts for the conveyor
belts of various companies such as Budweiser and Coors.
His passion was spending time in the outdoors where he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends.
José is survived by his wife, Carmen, his 3 sons, Sergio, Javier and
Roberto, his granddaughter, Leandra and many siblings, cousins, nephews
and nieces.
Visitation will be on Friday, January 4th at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m.
On Saturday, a Mass of the Resurrection will be held at Sacred Heart Church at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
