LaForge to start role as permanent city manager

Michaele LaForge will start Monday as the next permanent city manager with the City of San Juan Bautista.

San Juan Bautista Mayor Jim West on Friday confirmed he signed LaForge’s new employment contract. City council members recently hired her in an assistant manager role under interim manager Ed Tewes, but have now made her the permanent city manager.

West mentioned how LaForge came from the private sector before joining the city, and that she lives near San Juan. West credited Tewes for helping the city get on the right track.

“As a city, we were looking in all the wrong places,” said West, also noting LaForge is a a graduate of Annapolis, the U.S. Naval Academy in Maryland.

LaForge was not immediately available.
