Hollister police arrested a suspect found with a loaded gun after a fight.
According to a statement:
Police arrest two males after responding to a large fight. An involved juvenile was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun.
On 03/17/2017, Officers responded to the 900 block of Monterey Street, to a large fight between many youths. Prior to arriving, Officers were advised there may be a subject with a firearm. Most of the involved persons had fled but an officer did spot three males matching the descriptions given by concerned callers. Several Hollister Police Officers and Deputies from the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office converged on the area.
When an officer attempted to contact the three males, two cooperated but one male attempted to flee on foot. Deputies chased the fleeing male and were able to catch the suspect a short time later. It was then learned he was a juvenile.
A Deputy informed Hollister Police Officers that the juvenile suspect had thrown a handgun into the bed of a pickup truck as he was fleeing. A very short time later the loaded handgun was found.
Ammunition that matched the caliber of the handgun was found on one of the two subjects who were being questioned by officers. The male possessing the ammunition was Manuel Garcia, 18-years-old, of Modesto CA (pictured above).
At least one of the suspects is an admitted active gang member. The suspects were arrested for possessing a loaded firearm, possessing ammunition with a felony conviction, resisting arrest and a probation violation.
