Hollister police accuse three of breaking into Agua Azul Bar, attacking people

Hollister police announced the arrest of three men suspected of breaking into the local Agua Azul Bar early Thursday morning and threatening people inside.

According to a statement from the Hollister Police Department:

Police arrested three men after they broke into a local bar and fought with and threatened victims inside.

On May 17, 2019 at about 1:35 am, officers were dispatched to 840 East Street, Agua Azul Bar, regarding a report of three men making threats and armed with a knife. As officers were approaching the area, three men matching the description were spotted running away. All three suspects were detained.

Officers contacted Alfredo Cervantes (25), Urbano Sernas Jr (28) and Pedro Lira-Padilla (24), all from Hollister. During the officers’ investigation, they discovered that the three males had been involved with a fight and the break-in.

Officers learned one of the three males got into an argument and then physically assaulted a patron at the bar. The three were forced out of the bar by the victim and other patrons in the bar. The owner of the bar then locked the doors to keep the men from reentering.

A short time later, police alleged Alfredo Cervantes kicked open one of the doors, entered the bar with a knife in his hand, and assaulted the original victim and threatened other patrons with the knife. Sernas and Lira-Padilla fought with other patrons as Cervantes was attacking his victim.

Cervantes was arrested and charged with burglary, battery, brandishing a knife, possession of brass knuckles, and threatening a police officer. Lira-Padilla was booked on the charges of burglary and battery. Sernas was booked on the charges of battery and a local warrant.

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Officer Pedro Torres at the Hollister Police Department at 636-4330. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call the WeTip hotline at 800-78-CRIME. Information provided to WeTip may qualify for a reward.
