A 20-year-old Hollister man died late Sunday when a truck overturned on Quien Sabe Ranch Road, and the driver was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatality victim in the incident was Jakob Bohon, a San Benito County Sheriff/Coroner’s Office spokesman confirmed. The driver, 30-year-old Travis White, was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter, the spokesman confirmed.
The incident was reported at 11 p.m. Sunday at Quien Sabe Ranch Road and Santa Anita Road in San Benito County.
White was northbound on Quien Sabe Ranch Road in a 2002 GMC going about 45 mph. He turned unsafely for unknown reasons, and the truck overturned.
The CHP determined that neither the driver nor the passenger had been wearing seat belts, and both were ejected from the vehicle.
White sustained minor injuries. He was taken to Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital for treatment and then was booked into the San Benito County Jail.
The CHP noted how Quien Sabe Ranch Road was closed for about 90 minutes due to an investigation. Any witnesses are asked to call CHP Officer Christiansen at (408) 848-2324.
