Hollister council members this week approved the second of two available permits for medical marijuana dispensaries.
The unanimous approval came after a November meeting where the council directed staff to work with the applicant, Higher Level of Care, on the permitting. The city allows two medical dispensaries and already approved Monterey Bay Alternative Medicine to finalize establishment of its dispensary that will be at 773 San Felipe Road.
On Aug. 20, the council authorized staff to open the application process for the second permitted medical dispensary, and two applications were received. The Cannabis Review Committee reviewed the applications and determined that the only qualified application was Higher Level of Care at 1802 Shelton Drive.
The business also will do manufacturing, cultivation and distribution. The dispensary will run out of about 2,000 square feet in a 76,000 square-foot facility. Hollister Cannabis Affairs Director Maria Mendez told the council the dispensary expects to open this spring.
