Heavy rains to hit Hollister area

Four straight days of rain and occasional high winds are forecast for San Benito County.

According to the National Weather Service, the Hollister and San Juan Bautista areas are expected to experience rainy conditions Friday through Monday.

There’s also a high wind watch and flash flood watch in effect for later in the day Friday.

“A High Wind Watch means there is the potential for a hazardous high wind event. Sustained winds of at least 40 mph…or gusts of 58 mph or stronger may occur,” according to the National Weather Service.

Drivers can expect a rough commute home Friday as well.

“A powerful cold front will bring heavy rain to the region,” according to the weather service forecast for Hollister. “Rain   rates will approach 1 inch per hour during the frontal passage. The heavy rainfall over a short amount of time will likely inundate storm drains with rapid rises on small creeks and   streams. Rainfall totals of 1-2 inches in the valleys, 2-3 inches in the hills with local amounts up to 4 inches will occur over a 6-12 hour window of time.”
