Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital Laboratory Director Mark Smith said his goodbye at a hospital board meeting Thursday after about 30 years with the district.
Smith will soon retire after three decades on the job. He said a goodbye at Thursday’s meeting of the San Benito County Healthcare District Board.
“We had the opportunity in the last three or four weeks, more than once, to assist the big boys – I.E. Stanford and Big Sam – with testing results that they can’t get themselves, or not within a reasonable time anyway,” Smith said. “I really believe this is due to the support we’ve had from the administrative staff and just the goal of the best patient care we can provide here. It’s made my life a lot easier.”
He said he came to the district on a per diem basis 30 years ago and didn’t expect to stay long.
“It’s been enjoyable,” he said. “I have absolutely no qualms. It’s been very enjoyable to work here. I thank you guys for your support. You’ve made my job a lot easier.”
