As Gavilan College celebrates 100 years of history and academia, alumni, community members and friends of the college prepare for a grand centennial gala on Saturday, Sept. 7.
“Gavilan Through the Decades” is the college’s major fundraiser, a retrospective of the ages, complemented by fine wines, food and an opportunity to experience the diversity of the communities it serves.
“If you choose to attend just one major fundraising event … let it be one that will only happen once every 100 years,” said Gavilan Superintendent/President Kathleen A. Rose, “and one where your contribution will be a part of the lasting legacy of the next decade of student achievement at Gavilan College.”
The gala takes place from 5:30-9 p.m. on the scenic Gilroy campus, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd. Guests will take a nostalgic and informative stroll down Sycamore Lane and experience decades of Gavilan’s history from the 1920s to today. Academia through the decades will be featured, as well as decade-themed food and wine stations, live music, students in period costume, formal and informal photo fun, live and silent auctions, roving entertainment and a string quartet.
Guests will receive a commemorative wine glass and a program highlighting directions to each featured decade and the exciting events taking place there.
Early-bird tickets (by June 1) are $100 ($125 after June 1) and available through Eventbrite.
Gavilan also invites potential benefactors to support student success through sponsorship of the gala, with packages ranging from $500 to $50,000.
Sponsorships offer a number of benefits depending on the level, including gala tickets, signage, promotion and advertising, social media and website promotion and more.
“Your support of students in our district will ensure a future of graduates that will strengthen our communities, encourage economic growth and global citizenship,” said Rose. “We are honored to continue to serve the higher educational needs of the Gavilan Joint Community College District and look forward with pride to the next 100 years, with your support. Please join us as we dream and design … with a student in mind.”
