In 2017, local community leader and past City of Hollister Councilwoman Mickie Solorio Luna was honored with the Honoris Causa Doctorate from La Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City, Mexico. The honorary doctorate degree is given to people who are distinguished leaders in the world and are positive examples in society.
In this capacity, Luna will serve as a member of the Caustro Doctoral Iberoamericano: Liderazco Hoy, a Mexico nonprofit whose mission is to act in favor of humanity through integral and honest participation in society in the areas of social inclusion, the procurement of justice, gender equity, representation of vulnerable groups, and mediation, among other causes. The nonprofit also promotes leadership of people who are committed to human development in the world, for professional work, for academic achievements and social projects, and for contributions to the improvement and well-being of humanity.
In February 2019, Luna was appointed by the Caustro Doctoral Iberoamericano to the role of program coordinator throughout the United States.
“By virtue of your performance within the faculty and professional career, extolling values for the sake of the progress of humanity, we ask you to accept the appointment of Program Coordinator throughout the United States of America. We reiterate our friendship and send you a fraternal greeting,” said Dr. Arturo Cruz Cabrera, president of the Claustro Doctoral Iberoamericano and president of the Fundacion Liderazgo Hoy, A.C. (Ibero-American Doctoral Institute and President of the Leadership Foundation Today, A.C.).
As program coordinator, Luna will serve as liaison between member countries and the United States in the area of improvement to humanity relations.
“I am truly honored and humbled to have been selected, by such a distinguished group of international leaders, to serve in this capacity. I am looking forward to help facilitate and contribute to the positive relations between international Countries and the United States;” Luna said in a statement.
The Caustro Doctoral Iberoamericano membership has representation from numerous countries including Spain, Ukraine, Cuba, Peru, Italy and others.
The Doctorate Induction Ceremony will be held on April 3, 2019 at the Tsakapoulos Sacramento Library Galleria, where honoring nominees will be inducted into the Claustro Doctoral Honoris Causa Program, making it the first occasion that Mexico’s Doctorate Ceremony will be held in California. The ceremony is being planned and coordinated by Luna and Dr. Juan Manuel Ruiz of Salt Lake City, with the assistance of Dora Cortes Gallardo Telles of Mexico City.
Mexico leaders also acknowledged Luna for receiving the recognition of the OHTLI Award in 2014, at the National LULAC Convention, in New York City. The OHTLI Award is the highest commendation made to an individual outside of Mexico by the president and the Republic of Mexico.
