Families with young children who are in need of food or other supplies are encouraged to come to the First 5 San Benito location today.
First 5, in partnership with the food bank and other organizations, has about 200 boxes of food available on top of 200 reserved boxes. The organization will distribute the 400 boxes of food each Friday as a way to alleviate lines at the Community Food Bank of San Benito County, said First 5 Executive Director Lisa Faulkner.
Faulkner said the boxes are for three to four people and last three to four days. The organization will also give away diapers, wipes and hand sanitizers, she said.
This is the first Friday of the distribution, so many people don’t know about it, she said. Going forward, the organization will ask locals to text or call in advance. But today, residents are welcome to just show up as long as the supplies last.
The boxes will be available each Friday from 8 a.m. to noon.
The California Conservation Corps, LDS church and others will be on hand to help out. United Way of San Benito County and Go Kids are additional partners with First 5.
“We’re fully stocked with volunteers,” she said.
