Five District 1 residents have applied for the Hollister City Council seat left vacated with the resignation of Ray Friend.
The residents who applied include Elizabeth Doidge, Dave Haro, Kevin Henderson, Dawn Koistinen and Carol Lenoir.
The city gave interested residents until Friday to apply for the open seat. City officials released the names in response to a records request from San Benito Live, while the council is scheduled to interview the applicants and appoint the new council member Oct. 1.
The seat became open Aug. 7 after Friend resigned following nearly 10 years on the council to move close to family in Washington state. Friend put in his resignation July 11, four days before a deadline for the city to place the open seat on the November ballot. But since he officially resigned Aug. 7, it was too late for the city to get the race on the ballot. Instead of opting for a special election in March, the council decided to invite applicants for an appointment.
With the appointment, along with three council races and the mayor’s race on the ballot, it makes for a lot of potential turnover on the Hollister City Council this fall.
