Firefighter killed in wreck near Carr Fire served in Hollister

A Calfire firefighter stationed at the Hollister Air Attack base from 2016 until the spring of 2018 died Thursday in a solo-vehicle traffic accident while responding to the Carr Fire in Redding, according to authorities.

Andrew Jason Brake, 40, died in the accident. He was stationed at the Hollister Air Attack base until April, when he was transferred to Calfire’s Butte County unit. That’s according to Calfire and the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office, which shared its condolences after the accident.

In a statement released Friday, Calfire noted how the heavy equipment mechanic died in the accident on Highway 99 while assigned to the Carr Fire outside Redding.

“The Brake family is being supported by members of Cal Fire and L2881 and are asking for privacy as they work through this tragic loss. Information will be forthcoming regarding when the family would like to share memories of Andrew and how he was loved and admired by his family and friends. Please keep family members of Andrew Brake in your thoughts.
