A 3.9-magnitude earthquake shook the San Benito County area early Friday morning.
The United States Geological Survey initially registered the quake at magnitude 4.1 in the Tres Pinos area but adjusted it to a 3.9 minutes later. It was centered in Tres Pinos and hit at about 6:30 a.m.
The temblor started with a good shake and then rolled on for an extended period, likely shaking enough to wake many local residents who were already in bed.
The quake was at a depth of about three miles.
Residents reported feeling it north as far as Sunnyvale and south of Soledad, according to the USGS.
