Drivers should expect another few days of detours in the downtown area with roadwork happening near Fourth Street, a top planning official said Monday.
Roadwork on Monday morning from Fourth Street to North Street caused headaches for morning commuters, but it’s part of Hollsiter’s effort’s to improve road conditions that have long been the subject of citizens’ criticism.
Bryan Swanson, Hollister’s top planning official, told San Benito Live on Monday that the downtown work is part of the state’s Senate Bill 1 roadwork funding, while the city was adding more than $2 million more in funding for various road projects. It’s unrelated to the work that has been happening on the west side to fix the out-of-date storm drain system that’s caused continual main breaks along the line.
Swanson on Monday said he expected the downtown detours to last for three or four more days. It’s a road rehabilitation and resurfacing project, he said.
The road rehab and resurfacing will involve work in various areas of the city that include West Street from Fourth to South streets, South Street from West to San Benito streets, Monterey Street from South Street to Nash Road, and San Felipe Road from Third to Maple streets, Swanson said. Additionally, there will be work on San Benito Street from Nash Road to south of the high school along with work on Ladd Lane. The city is also doing work on the city portion of Flynn Road, he added.

Look back for more.
