The San Benito County District Attorney’s Office charged a 30-year-old Hollister man on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and other charges in connection with the death of 20-year-old Jakob Bohon on Sunday.
The DA’s office on Tuesday charged Travis A. White on suspicion of felony vehicular manslaughter and three felony counts of DUI-alcohol while causing great bodily injury, according to court records.
The incident was reported at 11 p.m. Sunday at Quien Sabe Ranch Road and Santa Anita Road in San Benito County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
White was northbound on Quien Sabe Ranch Road in a 2002 GMC going about 45 mph. He turned unsafely for unknown reasons, and the truck overturned, according to the CHP in a statement.
The CHP determined that neither the driver nor the passenger had been wearing seat belts, and both were ejected from the vehicle.
White sustained minor injuries. He was taken to Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital for treatment and then was booked into the San Benito County Jail.
The CHP noted how Quien Sabe Ranch Road was closed for about 90 minutes due to an investigation. Any witnesses are asked to call CHP Officer Christiansen at (408) 848-2324.
White is set for a continued arraignment hearing Thursday at the San Benito County Courthouse. He is represented by Harry Damkar.
