San Benito County’s unemployment rate in October was a staggering 4.2 percent.
There were 29,700 of an estimated 31,000 local adults employed in the latest survey for the month of October as released by the California Economic Development Department. That was up just slightly from the 4.0 percent registered in September, with an estimated 29,400 local people employed, according to the EDD.
Statewide, the unemployment rate remained at a record low in October of 4.1 percent, the same number recorded in September. EDD noted that the mark kept the state at a historically record low in a series of unemployment rates dating back to 1976.
The U.S. unemployment rate remained at 3.7 percent, with the country adding an estimated 250,000 non-farm payroll jobs in October.
The number of Californians holding jobs was at an estimate of 18,637,000. That is up 55,000 from September and 111,000 from the same period in 2017, according to the EDD.
Professional and business services reported the largest gains among categories.
