Dear Community Member,
Many of you have contacted me about the ramifications of the coronavirus (COVID-19) and the resources of the government to mitigate effects of the disease on our public health and personal finances. At the federal level, the United States Congress has passed and the president has signed into law three emergency bills, including the largest ever stimulus package, to fight this pandemic and ensure our individual safety and economic security. Below is a list of topics from that legislation about which you have frequently inquired. By clicking on the individual topics, you can find out information about each of these areas, actions taken by Congress, and the resources to help you.
- Congressional Action
- Direct Monetary Payments
- Food Assistance
- Housing Assistance
- Local and Federal Resources
- Small Businesses and Non-Profits
- Students
- Taxes, Federal
- Travelers and Community Members Abroad
- Unemployment Information
In addition to the above resources, you can learn more about the coronavirus and the government-wide response online from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) or the State of California. You can call 1-800-CDC-INFO, dial 2-1-1, or text “COVID19” to 211211 to ask any question related to the virus. Sign up for the CDC’s Subscription Service or my newsletter to receive the latest information about COVID-19 and all of the action taken by our federal government.
Please know that I continue to monitor this public health crisis and will keep our community apprised of any necessary information. For frequent updates, please follow me on Twitter and Facebook. If you have any immediate questions or concerns that I or my staff can help you with, please feel free to call my Congressional offices in Salinas, Santa Cruz, or Washington, D.C. or contact me through my website. Please do not hesitate to reach out and let me know how I can continue to best serve you.
Sincerely,
JIMMY PANETTA
Member of Congress
