CHP to honor Good Samaritan

The California Highway Patrol will honor a local Good Samaritan who helped on the scene of a recent traffic incident.
The CHP will honor the resident, Jose Perez of Morgan Hill, on April 10 at the Gilroy-Hollister office.
According to the CHP in a statement:
On January 21, 2017, just after 12:00 p.m., a head on traffic collision resulting in a fatality occurred on SR-152 east of San Felipe Road in an unincorporated area of Santa Clara County involving a 2002 Mercedes sedan and a 2005 Ford pickup truck. A third vehicle, a 2012 Scion sedan was also involved. Shortly after the vehicles came to rest, the Ford pickup trucks engine compartment caught fire. The driver and passenger of the Ford pickup truck both sustained major injuries to their lower extremities as a result of the collision and were incapacitated. Two passing motorists, Jose Perez and Vidal Flores noticed the Ford pickup truck on fire and stopped to help. Jose Perez with the assistance of Vidal Flores, safely removed the driver and passenger from the Ford pickup truck. Just minutes after their extrication, the passenger compartment of the Ford pickup truck became fully engulfed in flames. If not for the selfless acts of Jose Perez and Vidal Flores, both the driver and passenger of the Ford pickup truck would have perished in the flames.
