The California Highway Patrol released more information on the fatal accident Sunday on Fairview Road.
The CHP ruled that the fatality victim in a 2017 Hyundai Veloster had crossed double-yellow lines on the road, causing the head-on collision.
The person who died in the incident was 61-year-old Gregory Dziak, said Capt. Eric Taylor with the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office, which also acts as the coroner. Dziak most recently lived at the Casa de Fruta RV Park that straddles the San Benito/Santa Clara County line, Taylor confirmed.
A 42-year-old, 14-year-old and 13-year-old from Hollister were in the 2000 Ford F-250 pickup truck that was struck by the Hyundai. The adult and one of the juveniles sustained minor injuries, according to the CHP.
The CHP reported that the accident was at 3:18 p.m. north or Rosa Morada Road.
Responders arrived on scene and found the driver of the Hyundai trapped and unresponsive.
“Personnel on scene attempted to revive the driver but despite their best efforts were unable to resuscitate the driver and he was declared deceased at the scene of this collision,” according to a press statement from CHP.
The driver and passengers in the pickup truck sustained minor injuries, according to CHP.
The CHP reported that the Hyundai driver crossed the double-yellow line and collided head-on with the Ford pickup truck.
It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved, and the investigation is ongoing.
