CHP: Driver struck, killed at train crossing while on cell phone

A train conductor from Hollister was involved in a vehicle fatality in Aromas, and a witness alleged he had been on a cell phone.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 41-year-old San Jose man died in the accident on Quarry Road on Nov. 10 at about 4:30 p.m.

The train struck a 2004 Honda Civic on private property at an uncontrolled rail crossing. Witness statements claimed the driver had been on a cell phone at the time of the wreck. The victim died on the scene.

The San Benito County Sheriff’s Office, Hollister fire and California Highway Patrol responded along with American Medical Response.
