CHP: Alcohol was factor in collision killing Hollister man

A 21-year-old male from Hollister died in a single-vehicle rollover over the weekend on San Juan Road in Monterey County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The deceased victim was identified as Oscar Ferrerya Alvarez, according to the Monterey County Coroner’s Office.

The wreck occurred at 11:26 p.m. Friday west of Murphy Road, according to the CHP. A 23-year-old male passenger was transported to Natividad Medical Center with minor injuries.

The Monterey County Coroner’s Office did not immediately provide the fatality victim’s name. The CHP did note he was age 21 and from Hollister.

The two were in a Toyota Tundra eastbound on San Juan Road when, for unknown reasons, the driver allowed the vehicle to leave the road. The truck collided with a power pole on the shoulder, then proceeded south and rolled over.

The driver was unrestrained and ejected from the vehicle, and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel.

It is believed that alcohol was a factor in the collision, according to the CHP.
