Celebration planned for outgoing SJB city manager

A “Thank You” celebration is planned for outgoing San Juan Bautista City Manager Michaele LaForge on Thursday.

The first part of the evening is set for 4-5 p.m. at the San Juan Bautista Public Library, 801 Second St., Mayor Cesar Flores said. Afterward, there’s a party at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, 58 Monterey St. for LaForge, who’s a veteran herself. That gathering will start at 7 p.m.

LaForge in February announced her resignation to take a private-sector job as a chief operating officer.

City council members initially hired her in an assistant manager role under former interim manager Ed Tewes, but then made her the permanent city manager last April. The council has hired Tewes back as interim city manager for a three-month post, with one of his primary jobs being to recruit a new permanent city manager.

LaForge is a graduate of Annapolis, the U.S. Naval Academy in Maryland. She said at her new job, will be working with Naval Academy classmates and other friends. Before her role with San Juan, LaForge came from the private sector as well.
