The nomination period officially opens Monday for residents to declare candidacy for the June primary ballot in San Benito County.
The nomination period for the June 5 primary election is from today through March 9, according to SBCVote.us. According to the elections office, that “declaration of candidacy” is the official nomination document on which the candidate indicates his or her name as it would appear on the ballot and when the candidate declares he or she meets qualifications for the office sought.
Offices on the primary ballot include such roles as the two judges, county superintendent of schools, District 3 and District 4 county supervisor, assessor, clerk-auditor-recorder, district attorney, sheriff and treasurer-tax collector.
Some candidates chose to declare their intentions early by submitting signatures in lieu of filing fees that are due when candidates declare.
