As always, local residents don’t necessarily have to leave town in order to get out and do something. Here is a roundup of events happening in San Benito County this weekend:

The annual Vaquero Heritage Days event is set for Aug. 17-19 at the St. Francis Retreat in the San Juan Bautista area. For Friday activities, which are sold out, it will include an artisan show and sale from 4-7 p.m. with a chef’s delicious Hors d’oeuvres and a no-host bar. According to the event website: It is a “special time to mix and mingle with invited artisans, gear makers, iconic vaquero horsemen, historians, all sharing their knowledge and skills influenced by early vaquero lifestyles – saddles, gear, rawhide riatas, bits, spurs, jewelry, books, fine art and more!”
Then from 7-8:30 p.m., there will be a concert under the stars with award-winning singer/songwriter and Western Music Association’s Hall of Fame member Dave Stamey.
