If you’re looking to get out this weekend, there’s a Fun Run, garden tour and the final performances of a play at Gavilan College. The following are Calendar Picks for the weekend:
Fiesta Fun Run: The Fiesta Fun Run is set for 8 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Mission City. It is the second annual Fiesta Fun Run. Although online registration is closed, runners can register at the event. Bib pickup will be between 5 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. at 100 Nyland Drive. It is the second annual Fiesta Fun Run to help raise money for the San Juan Home and School Club. Event goers can run, walk or stroll on the 1-mile family fun run, 5k or 10k. They can also complete the Padre Challenge by signing up and completing the 1-mile family fun run and the 5k.
Garden Tour: The Aromas Country Garden Tour is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 12 at the Aromas Grange. The $15 tickets are available at the Aromas Grange, and it’s $10 for seniors. Visitors can enjoy AHA gardens and meet the artists. See more at aromashillsartisans.com.
Knitting/Crochet Meet-Up: The San Juan Bautista Library is hosting a Knitting and Crochet Meet-up. Do you like to craft with yarn? Would you like to learn how? Come knit with this group. This month is a “tangy” pattern from Knitty.com. If you’d like to try your skills making socks these “Tulip Toes” are a good place to start. There will be notions and yarn to use for those that would like to learn the basics, and the group can also help you with your project if you need help.
Midsummer’s Night Dream: Gavilan College is presenting “A Midsummer’s Night Dream” in May. The final performances are May 11 and 12. Shows are at 8 p.m. Friday, and there’s a Mother’s Day matinee at 2 p.m. May 12 as well. John Lawton Haehl, Ph.D, will be directing the William Shakespeare play. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door, with students and seniors getting in for $12. A family pack (two adults, two children) is $35. Tickets are on sale at the Gavilan Bookstore and BookSmart in Morgan Hill. The Gavilan College Theatre is located at 5055 Santa Teresa Boulevard in Gilroy.
Day on the ranch: The El Camino Club and other organizations are hosting another Day Out on the Ranch event for area special needs residents. The event at Thorson’s Arena in San Martin is being organized by California Highway Patrol Officer Chris Miceli, who’s a member of the El Camino Club, along with other organizations such as the California Cattlemen’s Association and 4-H. It is meant for special needs adults and children in the area. The El Camino Club is a California Highway Patrol organization in Hollister and Gilroy areas. Day Out On the Ranch is set for noon to 3 p.m. May 12 at Thorson’s Arena, 2005 Hayes Lane in San Martin. It will include rodeo skills stations, live bluegrass music, a hot dog with chips and a drink, horseback rides and a petting zoo. For more information, reach Miceli at (408) 848-2324, ext. 211.
