Calendar Picks: Comedy Sportz, Kites and Pickleball

The following are some of the events going on in San Benito County this weekend:
Comedy Sportz
San Benito High School is hosting a Comedy Sportz event Friday from 7-9 p.m.
Spring Cleanup
A community supported cleanup of downtown, including pulling weeds, planting, scrubbing and painting. Volunteer for this annual event and help beautify our downtown!  Groups are welcome. Sponsors and volunteers are always needed, according to the Hollister Downtown Association, which runs the event.
YMCA Healthy Kids Day
The YMCA of San Benito County announced details for the annual Healthy Kids Day event set for April 21. It is set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the YMCA, 351 Tres Pinos Road in Hollister.
Pickleball gathering
The pickleball activities will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at the San Juan School tennis courts, according to the historical society. As for the Kite Festival, proceeds from donations will help San Juan School students attend Science Camp.
Kite Festival
The REACH San Benito Parks Foundation is hosting a San Juan Kite Festival on Saturday. The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the San Juan School soccer field just off The Alameda and Highway 156.
The GardenShoppe will present a Wood Sign Painting Class
All boards and paint will be supplied. The signs will start at $22.00 decreasing if you paint more than one. Poetry reading
To celebrate National Poetry Month, Carol Ford will present a reading in the Carl Luck Memorial Library in San Juan Bautista at 1 p.m. She will speak of her family’s history. In the early twentieth century, her great aunt made a solo horseback ride “across California, over the De Anza trail and into San Juan Bautista,” according to the society.
St. Francis Retreat Anniversary
St. Francis Retreat is celebrating its 70th anniversary April 21 and April 22. At 6 p.m. Saturday, there is a reception and Local Farm to Table Formal Dinner (See Menu) for $70 per person and an overnight Accommodation with Continental Breakfast (Optional) at $100.00 per room. On Sunday at 1 p.m. is a Mass of Thanksgiving followed by a reception and presentation. Register & Pay Online Now
