San Benito High School will host a Comedy Sports event on Friday night, leading off the weekend in San Benito County.
The high school comedy sports competition is set for 7 p.m. Friday at the high school, 1220 Monterey St. Teams will compete against each other on improvisation activities for the event.
Also this weekend, the water color exhibit featuring watercolor paintings of the California Missions continues at Old Mission San Juan Bautista. The exhibit features the works of Nancy Burtch Hauk, the late Pacific Grove artist who adored the Missions and often visited them. The exhibit is on display at the San Juan Bautista Mission Museum, 406 Second St. It shows watercolors and gouaches of Old Mission San Juan Bautista, Mission San Carlos Borremeo del rio Carmelo, Mission Nuestra Senora de la Soledad, and Mission San Antonio de Padua.
On Saturday, the monthly Come Garden with Us event is set for the State Historic Park in San Juan Bautista, where volunteers can help spruce up the landscapes from 8 a.m. to noon.
Also monthly over at the San Benito County Library, the Friends of the San Benito County Free Library host a monthly book sale Saturday. It runs from 10 a.m. to noon at the library on Fifth Street.
And if locals want to relax and enjoy local wines, DeRose Winery is holding an event with international flair Saturday. “A Taste of Spain” is set for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at DeRose Winery, 9970 Cienega Road. According to the winery’s event page: The gathering will include a wide selection of Spanish wines, cheeses, and Alphonse DeRose’s world-famous homemade seafood paella. It includes a $40 Entry fee paid at the door. All guests are welcome, and all attendees must be at least 21 years of age. Please call or email to make reservations today.
