Calendar Picks: Bluegrass, antiques, bull riding and more

It’s another busy weekend of events in San Benito County that includes a bluegrass festival, antique fair and bucking bulls. The following is a roundup of highlighted events in San Benito County this weekend:

Stuff the Bus

United Way of San Benito County and the San Benito County Office of Education are partnering on the annual Stuff the Bus fundraiser. Local students who received vouchers from the education office can come out to the Target parking lot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today to pick up backpacks and school supplies complements of the fundraising effort.

Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival

The 25th annual Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival is Saturday and Sunday at the San Benito County Historical Park. Along with bands playing throughout the festivities, there will be a “Tour of the Town” hosted by the San Benito County Historical Society, which will show off the historic structures and artifacts on site; camping; kids activities; an open mic stage; plenty of concessions and more. Gates open 8 a.m. Main stage music starts at 3 p.m. and goes until 5 p.m. Sunday. The historical park is at 8300 Airline Highway. For more: http://www.scbs.org/

Friends of the Library Book Sale

The Friends of the San Benito County Free Library August Book Sale is set for Saturday, Aug. 11 from 10 a.m. to noon behind the San Benito County Free Library on 470 5th St. in downtown Hollister. Prices as low as 25 cents. All sales go to funding your library.

Faultline Bull Showdown

Gates open at 5 p.m. and bull riding starts at 6 p.m. for today’s Faultline Bull Showdown at Bolado Park. It’s put on by the Gold Coast Bucking Bulls Association, while this year’s event will include bucking horses as well. For more, go to goldcoastbuckingbulls.com.

Antique & Collectibles Fair

The San Juan Bautista Rotary Club presents the 54th annual Antiques & Collectibles Fair. It is set for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. There will be plenty of antiques, food, entertainment and even an appraiser on hand. It is put on by the Rotary Club of San Juan Bautista.

Hollister Art League reception

The Hollister Art League Art Show & Reception will feature local artists. Attendees can view and purchase art. A percentage of profits goes towards funding art scholarships for graduating local area high school students. It is set for noon to 5 p.m. at the ARTSpace Annex.
