The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified a Los Banos Woman killed Saturday on Highway 152 near Lovers Lane.

The victim was Britney Smith, age 31, of Los Banos, according to the medical examiner.

According to the California Highway Patrol report after the incident:

The incident happened just after 5 p.m. Saturday on the highway just west of Lovers Lane and involved three vehicles.

An unknown fatality victim was westbound in a Jaguar going faster than the 55 mph speed limit.

For unknown reasons, the driver crossed a double-yellow line and began driving westbound in the eastbound lane, lost control and collided with a 44-year-old male from Ballico in a 2001 GMC who was eastbound at an unknown rate of speed, according to the CHP.

Both vehicles spun out of control and caught fire. That led to the fatality victim’s vehicle colliding with a 2019 Freightliner driven by a 41-year-old man from San Jose who was in the westbound lane at about 50 mph.

Smith’s vehicle then hit a retaining well and came to a rest, and the person was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The GMC driver was assisted out of his vehicle and transported to San Jose Regional Medical Center with major injuries.

All vehicles were driven by solo occupants, according to the CHP.

It is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role. Anyone with information is asked to call Officer Uribe ID #21612 at (408) 848-2324.
