Aromas-San Juan School District campuses will remain closed to students through the spring break, with hopes of returning to classes April 20.
Superintendent Michele Huntoon confirmed the board took that action today. Schools are closed through April 9, a Thursday, after which the schools were already scheduled to go on spring break, she said.
Huntoon said administration and staff members were working hard to establish a virtual presence and prepare for continued instruction outside the classroom. On a daily basis, she said teachers will be in contact with students daily, principals will have contact with teachers, and she will have contact with those principals.
Much of that coordination will happen virtually online, but she noted how some students are without internet access largely due to geography.
There are other areas being addressed such as the need to provide counseling services, and the district will have food available – including baby food – for those who are ages 0-18.
The district joins others throughout the county who are extending the initial closure that was planned for this week.
