The San Benito County Board of Education on Thursday will meet to discuss a Foster Youth Services Coordinating Program and an Education Homeless Children and Youth Grant.
The board agenda for the 5 p.m. meeting at the San Benito County Office of Education, 460 Fifth St., notes how the board will discuss the nearly $162,000 in grant funds. Such grants “provide support services and technical assistance to districts serving foster children who suffer traumatic effects of displacement from family and school and multiple placements,” according to the agenda.
The agenda item goes on to note that the program offers the authority to “ensure that health and school records are obtained to establish appropriate placements and coordinate instruction, counseling, tutoring, mentoring, vocational training, emancipation services, training for independent living, and other related services.”
Overall, the program strives to ensure enrollment and equal access to education. Board members will hear an update on the program for the 2017-18 school year.
Also on the Thursday agenda, the school board will receive an alternative education update, select Spring board tour date and locations and approve board policies.
