Students, staff of week named from HDLA, Gabilan Hills

Courtesy of the Hollister School District:

Hollister Dual Language Academy and Gabilan Hills are two schools in one learning community on a single site. Each school has its own unique staff and students who make it a wonderful place to learn and teach! This week it is our chance to recognize just a handful of these special folks!

Manuel Guzman is the lead custodian of our campus. For 20+ years Manuel has cared for the facility needs of our campus and takes pride in every aspect of making this a wonderful place to learn and work. Manuel always has a smile and serves our school with a genuine passion for his work and the people in our community. Like many of the other schools in our District, Manuel is leading our team of custodians on a mission to beautify our school campus. He takes care in every detail to do flawless work and we already see our school shining bright again! We recognize Manuel Guzman for making a huge difference in our community as a hard working, professional, and a valued team member!

Lisa Ranzoni began her journey as an HDLA parent, volunteering countless hours of her time to benefit not only her son but all his classmates. In time, she became one of our hard working yard supervisors who helped with the many recess and lunch periods of our large school. Since the beginning of the year, Lisa has worked to help organize 1,000 material bags and distributed them at several huge pick up events. Now, as an Attendance Monitor, Lisa makes dozens of calls to Gabian HIlls and HDLA families to inquire about student absences, help with technical difficulties, and identify those families with further needs. We recognize and are so grateful to Lisa Ranzoni for her willingness to serve in any way she can!

We recognize Gabilan Hills 4th grade teacher Irma Collins for being a joyful individual who is kind to everyone and an encouraging influence to her students. Irma has been enthusiastic in the implementation of distance learning, working to master a welcoming virtual environment and consistently has a positive attitude in every aspect. She has a servant’s heart and goes above and beyond to make her lessons engaging and exciting for her students, including setting up a fun virtual classroom environment with “students” in seats who double as superheroes. Irma cares deeply for her students and her school and is an exemplary teacher, deserving of this recognition!

Elizabeth Vargas joined HDLA as a 7th grade teacher and this year is one of the dual language Spanish teachers in 4th grade, graciously changing grade levels without skipping a beat. Elizabeth is creative, patient, and kind. She engages her students and challenges them to achieve their potential. In years past, her students have consistently scored well on the State tests. Never afraid to take on a challenge, she was the yearbook coordinator last year, guiding students to produce their own yearbook that was complete just before the school closures in March. She spent many hours distributing the yearbooks this August so that students could enjoy their memories from when we were all together. Elizabeth is a wonderful team mate who shares her time and talents generously. HDLA is a better place because Elizabeth Vargas is a part of our team!

Kind, respectful, and helpful, Gabilan Hills 4th grader Sebastian Regalado has gone way above and beyond in his classwork so far this year. He is a joy to have in class and a friend to all, evident even through distance learning! Fine job Sebastian!

Gabilan Hills 5th grader Hazel Cuevas is attentive  and positive each day she joins her class in distance learning! She completes all of her Google Classroom and independent work and has received the highest number of participation points so far this year! Keep up the great work Hazel!

Julizah Arias is an HDLA 6th grader who is always prepared and willing to participate in class.  She asks questions to clarify any information she is unsure about, and continuously has a great attitude! These are wonderful qualities that we know contribute to her being an exemplary student. Excellent start Julizah!

HDLA 8th grader Yandel Gonzalez is thriving in our distance learning model! He puts forth a strong effort and completes all his work, participates in online discussions, and demonstrates maturity beyond his years. Way to go Yandel!
