The Anzar High School parade of vehicles through San Juan Bautista is set for June 11.
The vehicle parade will start at 3 p.m. in the San Juan School parking lot, with seniors lining up in the lot at 2:30 p.m., said Principal Angela Crawley.
“Then we’re just going to do a little parade route through town,” said Crawley.
She noted how the seniors’ vehicles will drive on Third Street and end at the library. Crawley said organizers hope graduates will decorate caps as usual, and they are encouraging seniors to play their school-sanctioned song from their vehicle.
One of Anzar’s graduation traditions is to have graduates walk up to their preferred song playing over a loudspeaker.
“We’re hoping seniors will wear all of their graduation gear, caps and gowns,” Crawley said.
Staff members envision parents driving the vehicles and students sitting in the backseats. Residents are encouraged to come out and celebrate the students while practicing social distancing.
A local fire truck will lead the graduates on their route, and Anzar will post speeches on a video after the ceremony.
“Please come out to join us wearing your face coverings, practicing social distancing and cheer on these seniors who have had just about the toughest year ever and who deserve to be recognized in our small-town community fashion,” Crawley said during the senior night ceremony this week.
