San Benito County: 61 COVID-19 cases as test numbers continue spiking

San Benito County reported one newly confirmed COVID-19 case Saturday, bringing the total to 61.

The county has had those 61 infections, including 53 recovered patients, six active cases and two deaths.

Those numbers include 30 person-to-person transmissions, 26 community transmissions, three travel related cases and two under investigation.

The county’s numbers have stayed relatively flat in the past month, with a slight increase over the past week after the community implemented expanded testing at the Veterans Memorial that is open to the general public.

The county’s overall test numbers have increased by about 49 percent – from 1,017 to 1,519 since May 4 when the expanded testing began as part of a federally sponsored program aimed at rural communities.
