First of all, we hope you and those close to you are staying safe and well. The past few months have truly been unprecedented. It has been inspiring to see the outpouring of support from our community to acknowledge and thank our healthcare workers on the front line.
Like other hospitals in the area, Hazel Hawkins has been hit financially by the coronavirus pandemic. Our doctors, nurses, and support teams are working diligently to provide safe, high-quality care for our community. To do this, the hospital took the initiative early on to set up a triage tent adjacent to the E.D. (Emergency Department), implemented drive-through testing, purchased the required equipment to treat our patients, and continues to monitor the inventory of the proper PPE for our staff.
We are very proud of our community for following the shelter-in-place orders that have helped flatten the curve, but this has had a financial impact on the hospital, as well. All non-critical outpatient surgeries have been postponed, several outpatient centers and labs have been closed, or are open with reduced hours. In response to this, the hospital has implemented telemedicine at our centers, allowing patients to call in to talk to their physicians.
